Ku!

“If I have a little KETSE, I have the right to wear yellow pants, and any Patsak should squat twice before me, not once. If a have a lot of KETSE, I have the right to wear crimson pants, so any Patsak should squat twice, any Chatlanin should make “ku”, and Etsilopp can’t beat me at night…”

some money talk about a month and so ago. me and some russians.
Andrey from Russia: [bla bla russian bla bla...] chatl?!
[russians laugh, i amuse myself only with andrey's mimics, knowing he is probably impersonating some characters again, too bad i don't understand shit...]
[i start noticing the word when he speaks over the next days]
Me: so… what’s this chatl, then?!
- well… it’s a made-up word… it “means” money.
- made-up? by whom?
- it’s from this old russian movie: kin dza dza (Кин-Дза-Дза). there are these guys, uncle vova and skripach…
not liking the state of ignorance i find myself in when i roam among them, i decided to see it. i’m usually attracted to these things that stay burnt in a people’s collective memory as much as to influence their jokes, expressions and such. so i got it (from a romanian server yes, with proper subtitles)

it’s directed by georgi daneliya (next i’ll try to get afonya/Афоня and mimino/Мимино also) and if you’re into post-apocalyptic future movies, artistic brilliance, Russian/Russia/Russians, social structures satire or just into a good comedy, watch it. although there were some punch-lines i didn’t quite get (the same would apply to anyone who would watch Filantropica and had no idea of a mid 90’s post-revolution Romania – yes, some facts still apply even today.. – or California Dreamin’ or… there are so many that could go under “cult movies”), i hope and think i got most of it. it has that Buñuel afterward morality-questioning edge to it.

and yes i am allowed to say ku/kyu/chatl now :D
thanx dima, alexander and andrey for this one!
